Frequently Asked Questions
  1. What is GoogleTap (Google Tap)?
GoogleTap was founded, developed, and coined by Paul Laudanski (Zhen-Xjell) enabling PHP-Nuke content management systems to be deeply indexed by today's search engines. GoogleTap is in use by the majority of PHP-Nuke sites, and its other *Nuke derivatives making it a highly successful application.
  2. Who first adopted GoogleTap?
CastleCops(SM) was used to develop and test the original GoogleTap. Shortly after, NukeCops adopted it, and the rest is history.
  3. What does it do?
GoogleTap (GT for short) delivers to the public facing web surfers short URLs instead of the standard use of "?" and "&". GT additionally removes the session ID (&sid) from all URLs. The "&sid" is typically bypassed by search engines in their crawls.
  4. How does it work?
GT utilizes PHP and Apache's mod_rewrite to modify all the URLs transparently to the web surfer. Everything is rewritten on the server-side. Making PHP-Nuke buffer its source code enables GT to automagically rewrite all matching URLs from their long version to the shorter version (while removing &sid where appropriate). This is what the web surfer sees on their browser when reading any dynamic page on your site. As they click these shortened links, Apache catches them, matches them, and rewrites them back to the original elongated version. Viola!
  5. Copyright/License?
Computer Cops LLC (CC) owns the copyright to the GoogleTap original work. CC also coined the phrase "GoogleTap", "Google Tap", "GT". The License is GNU GPL Version 2.
  6. Are there GT Derivatives?
Yes there have been ports, derivatives, etc for the original GoogleTap. For the PHP-Nuke world some of them are Googlifier and GT-NExtGEn. Another effort calls it the "Link Engine Optimized" or "LEO" system. There are other popular web based portal applications that ported GoogleTap, like "Google-Tab". More recently, another port called "MemHT php2html Mod Rewrite".
  7. What is "Expert GoogleTap"
It is a new layer of beauty to the original GoogleTap architecture. It adds the titles of threads, forums, and categories directly into the URL. No more "forum1.html", but rather "f1-General_Site.html". And the best thing about it is the support for international characters.
  8. Who owns the domains?
Domains are owned by Computer Cops, LLC. website
  9. Will there be more updates
The FAQ section will be updated as time progresses with more details.
  10. Donations?
Much of the code developed and released was done as an official PHP-Nuke CMS developer for the benefit of all. If you'd like to donate please click here, thanks!
  11. What other Products were created and worked on by Computer Cops, LLC?

  12. What's your status now?
I've retired and no longer contribute code to the community-at-large. My tenure lasted about two years, and now I devote my time entirely to ComputerCops.biz to ensure the eradication of spyware, adware, and all things malicious.
  13. What domains have you owned?
Nukecops.com and nukecops.net were founded by me and owned until I sold them in May to TogetherTeam s.r.l. in Italy.
  14. What is Nuke Cops?
Next to phpnuke.org, nukecops became the premiere PHP-Nuke support and development site (not to mention official development partner with phpnuke.org [Francisco Burzi]) under my leadership. Today with a new owner at the helm (sold in May 2004), Nukecops continues to be the source for information and community participation where all PHP-Nuke developers migrate and hang out. But more importantly and personal to me, Nukecops is where I met my wife, proposed to her online, and became a married man. Nukecops was a venture of Computer Cops, LLC originally.
  15. Where can I get your products?
Many websites gravitated to using and tweaking my products to fit their own unique style. Many of these products are available from a majority of websites for download, all you have to do is simply use a search engine to find them. There are also lots of PHP-Nuke forks that have integrated them. However, the products are all basically done development, as they are simply 'plug and play'.
  16. So what do you do with PHP-Nuke today?
I'm rewriting CastleCops extensively to be scalable at high volume rates by employing caching, acceleration, optimzation, debugging, and profiling. And I'm happy with this. However, see The Future above.
  17. So is it "Computer Cops" or "CastleCops"?
No matter what the name, it is the same site as always. It first started as "Computer Cops" and last year switched to "CastleCops".
